FUSE:_cadre/montalvo artist research residency initiative
In 2007 the CADRE Laboratory and Montalvo Arts Center formalized a partnership to establish a research based residency program focused on art’s relationship to technology. The International Research Residency represents a prime opportunity to collaborate with international cultural, research and academic partners from London, Dublin, Shanghai, Beijing, Mumbai, Singapore, Seoul, Sydney, Helsinki, Barcelona, Berlin, Linz, Liverpool, San Paulo and many other cities.
The objective of this new joint program is to establish industry sponsored residencies that serve to create new platforms for creative exploration and technology innovation that take advantage of the unique intellectual, technical and creative capacities of San José State University, the Montalvo Arts Center and Silicon Valley industry partners. The residency program will focus on enabling new collaborative models and building interpretive bridges between art, research and academia. MFA graduate students from the CADRE Laboratory will work directly with artists to realize works that would otherwise be impossible to conceptualize or implement.
Projects from these residencies will continue to be integral to the ZERO1 and be important contributions to the 2008 festival. Three corporate sponsored residencies will be identified for 2008 to be developed in cooperation with ZERO1.
